A very high back, enveloping aesthetics, and comfortable upholstery on which to find comfort: these are some of the characteristics of the armchairs ‘à oreillettes’ – with ears -, or bergère, a timeless classic that has spread throughout the world since the 1700s in France to become a contemporary design theme. The oversized headrest is its iconic sign: it stands out from the shell and slims it down to create a cozy, intimate, thick seat used as a place to read or relax, even within collective spaces. Bross retraces this pattern with the WAM collection and the new 2024 Peggy, both designed by Marco Zito and dedicated to residential, hospitality, and office projects.
The lounge version of the Peggy family, with a wood base in a natural, stained or matte lacquer finish, has an upholstery molded to different thicknesses that seems to rest gently on the structure, including an armrest. A thin edging, either contrasting or coordinated with the upholstery, follows the profile of the shell from which the headrest emerges, in oval shape: in this case it is not curved and the ‘ears’ extend on the two sides of the backrest, with an open effect and a 1950s appeal.
WAM, on the other hand, is a bergère with a shell in which the idea of enveloping is taken to its maximum expression and the headrest is designed by Marco Zito as a deliberately off-scale element. The armchair is supported by slender tubular metal legs in black, brushed bronze, or a custom RAL finish and offers the possibility of experimenting with customized combinations of fabrics and colors.
